Velocity Cycling Club is proud to offer one of the most comprehensive and developed track programs in the province. We are a member of the Argyll Velodrome Association which provides all club members with access to the local track throughout the season, including our Monday night skills/training sessions and optional participation in the Thursday Night Racing League. All members receive first class skill development and training from our certified coaching staff.
Don't own a track bike - no problem - Velocity Cycling Club owns 19 Marinoni track bikes in a variety of sizes that are available for use by club members. Individuals participating in Alberta Bicycle Association sanctioned races will have access to our race specific equipment.
Whether you are new to the discipline of track or an elite rider like our provincial and national champion, Tara Whitten, come on out and see what the excitement of track riding is all about.
The Velocity Cycling Club has been coaching track cyclists for over twenty five years. We have resources in place (19 high quality Marinoni track bikes) available to new riders to enable them to increase their fitness and gain valuable bike handling and safety skills. The coaching goal of the club is to raise skill levels to enable new track riders to safely enter competitions at local and sanctioned track events.
Club membership is now available. Membership for 2010 is $80.00 dollars and includes:
- - Full club membership and insurance through the Alberta Bicycle Association.
- - Club clothing at near cost pricing for all members.
- - Free coaching and use of track bikes for both Monday night track training sessions, Thursday night Track League and race wheels for sanctioned competitions (provincial event track racing).
- - Motor pace sessions both on the track and road.
- - Saturday group rides.
- - Use of Cyclocross bikes for those who donít have a road bike and wish to ride club road training events in the spring and participate in the fall cyclocross race series.
- - Free spin sessions at Velocity Cycle through the winter on Tuesday nights. Trainer provided - bikes available with prior notice.
- - The club also pays entry fees to sanctioned events within the Province of Alberta.
If you are thinking of doing track this next year we would suggest joining the club early to get involved with the trainer sessions on Tuesday nights. We start riding on the road usually in late winter, weather permitting, and track training starts the first Monday in May from 6 Ė 9:00 p.m. It is important, if you have never ridden the track, to attend the very first training nights at the track to learn the basics of safe riding and to be familiar with all the fitness and skill drills that we do on the track. We usually donít start motor pacing until we get in around four or five sessions, for safety reasons. Depending on the group we sometimes run our own races at the end of the Monday nights session.
On Thursdays, starting in May, the AVA Thursday night Track League series starts. We would like to see all our track riders attend. It is well organized and alternates weekly between a power night (favors bulky sprinter types) and an endurance night (favors the lean and mean). The program costs $5.00 per evening or $40.00 for the whole season (the cost of which the club canít reimburse). Sign on is 6 - 7:00 p.m., racing at 7:00 p.m.
